And so another year of cinema in Billericay comes to a close.

Thank you to everyone who came along to one (or both !) of our Christmas films: “The Holiday”,  a modern Christmas classic from 2006 and one of the greatest Christmas films of all time “It’s a Wonderful Life” from 1946.

Starting with “The Holiday”

“A brilliant evening and puts us in the Christmas mood”

With Jo’s hand-crafted festive lights decorating the tables there was a lovely atmosphere – boosted no doubt by the aroma of mulled wine!

Ken made his first appearance out front as host welcoming everyone (thanks Ken !) whilst in the kitchen with mulled wine flying out of the serving hatch as quickly as it could be made Paula, Sarah and Jo had to work hard!

Visitors gave the film an average score of 9.4 whilst their impression of the evening overall averaged 9.9.

Sunday’s “It’s a Wonderful Life” was another very busy show. With two of our regulars unfortunately not well and one on grandparent duty hats off to Sarah, Iris, Jenny and David who took on kitchen duty. It can be intense work, especially as people arrive but they did an amazing job.

“The music and table decorations absolutely made the afternoon wonderful plus the mulled wine, and that was before the film started!!”

Guests were entertained by the wonderful “Champagne Flutes” – a community flute orchestra who meet and rehearse in the Chantry Centre under the direction of Judith Underwood. Their festive tunes got everyone in the Christmas spirit straight away. Thank you to everyone who donated to the Champagne Flutes’ collection for Macmillan Cancer Support which raised an amazing £52.28.

We had another Volunteer Milestone award to hand out. Martin has now helped out at 75 films ! Congratulations and our deepest thanks, Martin !

“I knew about the cinema but didn’t realise part of the purpose is to encourage people out who might be sitting at home alone; I sat next to a lovely lady who was there on her own

A surprising number of people commented as they left that it was the first time they’d seen it. “Wonderful Life” was a hit with most but there were a couple of felt that the film was a bit slow in the first half, although it made up for it in the second.

We also welcomed two new Duke of Edinburgh Award students starting their time with us. Welcome to Millie and Rose, with Will and Jamie on their second Volunteer session

Visitors gave an average of 9.5 for the film and the afternoon a stonking 10.0 ! To be totally transparent we only work to 1 decimal place for averages – so 9.975 got rounded up !

A brilliant evening and puts us in the Christmas mood

Please thank all the Volunteers

GREAT FILM

In bad weather would be good with a coat rack. Excellent cocktail

Not a bad film, just not my favourite. Enjoyable apart from my least favourite actress, Cameron Diaz
